The big moment! 7/16/18

July 16th 2018, I was approved for my surgery and needed to do my pre-anesthesia consultation, I was nervous because you never know what they may find doing a physical and all that fun stuff!! I went in and thought it was going to be a 2 hour appointment like they said it would be. I was only in for 1 hour! Maybe it was because I didn't have any prior surgeries besides a tonsillectomy, maybe it was because my family had a pretty healthy (for the most part) history, maybe it was because I was "healthy" besides the weight part.
Who know's but I was happy it was quick! My heart sounded great, lungs sounded healthy, abdomen was perfect, they took blood and sent me on my way! It was good that they have this because I was able to tell them and have them put in my chart that I have post-anesthesia nausea. I remember after getting my tonsils out I woke up in the recovery room and just threw up and was nauseous and miserable. So they put it in my chart and that really helped come surgery day!

Now it was time to focus because in a week I would be having the big surgery! I needed to lose 2 pounds by that day! I continued to be on my best behavior and stick to the diet. Something a lot of Bariatric patients will tell you is they have a big meal before they start their surgery prep! Mine was Asia Chinese food and it was amazing!
Each doctor is different when it comes to the pre-surgery prep. Some have you start 2 weeks prior, some 1 week, mine was 3 days so July 22nd! When I say pre-surgery I don't mean eating and everything I mean full blown prep. You have to shrink your liver a bit, do a bowel prep and everything! I had to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate each day which tasted
HORRIBLE!! I had to plug my nose and down it as quick as I could! This helped with the bowel prep. For the liver prep I was on a strict clear liquids only diet, what are clear liquids exactly? Well it's sugar free jello, coffee, water, tea, soup broth, sugar free Popsicles, apple juice, pretty much things that you would in a way be able to see a light shine through it when it's in liquid form. That was horrible, I was hangry lol. July 22nd: I remember going to my nephew Levi's birthday party and everyone was having fruit, pizza, pop and best of all cake and I had my apple juice and jello lol. It was hard to not have a bite of pizza but I made it through and everyone there was so supportive and made it easy for me to talk to them all about this big move!
Now once again I had it a little easier seeing I didn't have to torture myself and stop smoking or drinking so that was a big plus!

Now it was time to mentally prepare for surgery day! Until then!!!
